Miscellaneous Mishegoss

😸 My husband’s new jeans just got here.  I ordered them May 12, they were on backorder, not expected until Mid-August and !Hurrah! here they are today, June 16.  What’s so special about these jeans? For one thing they are made in the USA. Therefore: Both pant legs are the same length. All the seams are double stitched in a straight line and best of all, both side pockets are not only the same depth but a depth at which you can actually put things in safely. Oho!

I don’t know who your buy your jeans from but if they were made in any of the countries most clothing comes from these days then you know what I’m talking about and how thrilled I am that these jeans are perfect in every way.  The company is All American Clothing Co.. If you wear just plain ole, non-fancy, non-designer jeans check them out. Two pair of mens jeans cost me, with tax, $104.93.  I had discount codes (sign up before you buy and they will probably email you a discount code plus I get discounts via my credit card and yadda yadda yadda) so that was a great discount from the normal price of $69.95 a pair. I don’t know if their regular price is too high or pretty much average, I don’t wear jeans myself, only buy them for my husband. I also don’t know about their womens jeans, never bothered to look but they do sell women’s clothes.

😸 This afternoon, after watching my husband shovel his lunch into his mouth like a 3 year old with a backhoe, we had yet another discussion about my food prejudices. Texture is everything. I do not like/have no tolerance for (but not limited to):

✔︎ Mashed white potatoes. But for some reason mashed up sweet potatoes or yams are just fine. Maybe because they have more substance, or even because they taste terrific, don’t know. White potatoes in any form are basically a waste of my time, tasting as bland as they look, and mashed potatoes make me gag.

✔︎ Needless to say oatmeal, or anything resembling oatmeal, is never going in my mouth. Talk about gagging! Plus – folks usually put milk in/on oatmeal and I’m lactose intolerant. So gag and barf times two.

✔︎ Liquid food is not food and consuming it does not count as eating. That includes soup or something I hear people talking about – smoothies? I’m not sure what those are or their purpose. It seems you take some sort of milk product (and to me all milk-like products – cows, sheeps, goats, soy, almonds etc are a huge no-no, gag and barf) and then add other solid stuff, any sort of fruit or vegetable(?), puree that shit, and then drink it. Why, god, why?

Moving on…

I’m reading Mortality by Christopher Hitchens. I have read about him but never anything by him. This book was published after his death in 2012 so I am very late to this writer. So far what struck me most was that he talks about a writer’s voice. And that the best advice he ever got was to write the way he talked.

Reading that made me feel better about myself. Whenever I despair about my writing style it’s because I, indeed, write the way I talk. Something you may all be aware of now that I have posted vlogs and audio posts.

Okay, I’m done now. Going to pop off and finish my book.

  1. I’m also anti-mashed potato.

    I like oatmeal with steel cut oats. It doesn’t turn to mush the way regular oatmeal does.

    I don’t think fruit and dairy belong together. My version of a smoothie is to take some frozen fruit, stick it in the blender with some water, and puree away.

  2. It is a good thing indeed that different folks have different preferences in foodstuffs. For example, I personally would be quite upset if the demand were so great that the world ran out of potatoes.

    The Hitchens book sounds great. I always liked him, considered him an honest atheist (his brother’s a Christian) and grieved that he suffered so much from the suicide of his mother. He was a spot-on social commentator, without the usual partisan blinders, someone we are sorely in need of today. Write as you talk is good advice. Except for those of us who get a little long-winded . . . . OOPS 😅

  4. Call me crazy but I like every single food item that you mentioned. I am probably the least picky eater on the face of the earth.
    I haven’t bought a pair of jeans in a very long time so I wouldn’t know what was a good price. Made in the US is a good thing though. It’s hard to find things that are.

    1. I think a lot of my food prejudices come from very early childhood – I just didn’t grow up eating them, add in extreme lactose intolerance and my sensitivity to texture and there you have it. As for the jeans, this is second time I’ve bought my husband jeans from that company, originally they only had two or three styles, and the first ones I bought, while they wear well, were just too baggy. The new ones are ‘classic fit’ – somewhat slimmer in cut tho still baggy in the ass. LOL

  5. I was told by a teacher that I write like I talk as if it was a bad thing. I don’t know how to write any other way! How do you not write like you talk? I love that you write like you tawk too because I read your posts and hear you tawking!

    I checked out the women’s jeans and there’s a sign up to be notified when they start making them.

    J loves mashed potatoes but the potatoes have to be Yukon gold. White potatoes have no flavor! I prefer sweet potatoes. I have a green drink every morning because I don’t do anything from a box (except a See’s box!) and I don’t cook so it’s the easiest way to get my nutrients in. It takes 5 minutes and tastes great! I add ice or frozen fruit because I can’t swallow it if it’s warm. Blech.

    1. In college when I was producing ‘term papers’ I got away with my casual writing style in my English classes but my psychology class papers were often criticized as being too colloquial. I simply can’t write in a scholarly style. When I do make white potatoes I do buy only Yukon gold thanks to your mentioning them, I don’t know the last time I made them, I’ve been od’ing on sweet potatoes – Love them! I don’t know what a ‘green’ drink is, but I don’t think I would care for it – starting with the color LOL I just can’t stand the texture of thick liquids – so gag and barf!

  6. over a $100 for 2 pairs of jeans!? yikes!!!!! i use to wear nothing but levis jeans for many many years. then they just became way too expensive. and they just didnt fit right. i switched to wrangler jeans sometime ago for several reasons. they cost much less and they fit me better. so my jeans are now only wranglers and even most of my cargo shorts are wranglers too. my “ranch” pants were wrangler cargo pants. the quality, fit and price are all my deciding factors.
